Beginning of the Scotland Adventure

12 juli 2014 - Aberfoyle, Verenigd Koninkrijk

This morning is a beautiful Scottish morning, Noortje and I are having breakfast next to a breath taking view of Scottish landscape with the fresh morning fog and dew everywhere to be seen, quite the sight. But since this is technically our third day here, lets us go back and recap what has happened so far.

So we first arrived here in Scotland at Edinburgh, Thursday evening around 10.30 pm UK time (it's one hour earlier in the UK than in the Netherlands). From there Sean had the daunting task of not only driving for the first time on the left hand side but also doing this in the dark. Now you may be saying to yourself, what's so hard about that Sean? There are always plenty of well light roads, with reflectors etc. Well friends, we are in Scotland and here, apparently they love the black of night. So needless to say Noortje and I were both a bit nervous and on edge once we finally got to the hotel.

That was our first taste of Scotland. Our next morning started off fairly rough as well, due to some forgetfulness on my part, but let me explain. If you know Noortje well you know she is a light sleeper and if you know me you know I can be forgetful, well I forget to turn my alarm off for work. And you may have guessed by now, this woke grumpy Noortje at 5:30 am.  So once I woke up feeling nice and fresh for holiday at 7:30, I found a surprisingly sleepy and angry Noortje, it was time to get some food in my girl and turn her mood around, haha. From there we had a nice breakfast and hit the left side of the road for our first hike of the trip, in this national park called Loch Lomond and the Trossachs.

Since the morning didn't quite go as planned it was only proper that our first hike followed suit. We got ourselves all sun-screened and bug sprayed up, put on out best hiking shoes, prepared the back packs, and set off on the hike. And we quickly lost our way. We couldn't find the actual trail at all at first, and once we did, the trail stopped and we ended up walking quite some time out of our way. But our spirits weren't down and Noortje came very prepared. She had a couple back up hikes planned so we popped back in the car and hit the road for half an hour to an amazing up-hill hike with an amazing view. There was a bit of a struggle to get to the top, but as usual the things like this tend to pay off and the top of the hill gave us some wonderful pictures/memories.

Once the hike was over we set off to check in at our first Bed and Breakfast, Corrie Glen, at this tiny town called Aberfoyle. We were greeted by our wonderful hosts Steven and Pauline with tea and yet another amazing view (see pictures). The rest of the evening was fairly mundane with Noortje and I just strolling through the woods and getting lost again, then turning around and heading to the village for a couple of pints and some dinner. From there we promptly pasted out from exhaustion at the B&B and woke up to one of many fine Scottish breakfast that will be.

And that leaves us to Noortje and I sitting in a quite little study writing this blog for you. Will fill you in on the next of our adventures. It's almost check-out time so unfortunately we don't have time to post the pictures now, but we will do that later today or tonight.
